Upcoming My Ministry Update

I have noticed that using My Ministry on a 3.5 inch screen caused some formatting issues, this will be corrected in this upcoming release.

Additionally, I have added a backup/restore solution using Dropbox. I am currently performing final testing on this update and when it’s complete, I will submit it to the AppStore.

This change required a small change to the Settings tab to accommodate the new buttons.

When you click on the back up button, you will be presented with this screen:

If the link is successful you will now how the ability to backup and restore as needed.

When you initiate a backup or restore, the app needs to wait until it’s complete, so you will see a grey progress overlay:

My Ministry will confirm both actions when data is being overwritten:

This feature allows your data to be safely backed up in the event of a catastrophic iDevice failure, and to be able to restore it in the event of a backup from iCloud not being available, or not being usable for what ever reason.

You can only have one backup per Dropbox account, this way you will only have your latest data and there is no way to accidentally use a wrong one.

I hope you enjoy this update, and if you do, would really appreciate a review in the app store since each update clears the old reviews out.

Dropbox integration coming for backing up your data.

I hope that you are finding My Ministry a useful application, which can help simplify managing your time in service.

One feature I have wanted to implement was an iCloud sync to ensure data isn’t lost if for some reason you are not able to restore from a previous backup.  I have seen several times when I have issues with my iPhone, the first response from the genius bar is to restore the phone as new and not from the iCloud backup (where your data normally would be stored).

However due to the fact of only having a single entry per day, and predetermined service year data structures, it seemed to me that introducing an iCloud two way sync would actually potentially introduce serious issues if you initialized service years on multiple devices when they weren’t attached to the cloud, and preventing data corruption if that happened would be challenging, if not impossible.

Therefore, I have decided to take a simpler approach which will allow you to link My Ministry to your http://www.dropbox.com account (if you choose to) and manually backup the data to a special folder in that account, and then if needed, restore it back from there.

This will provide the ability to save data off the phone in the case you need to get it back, without the additional risk of data corruption when sharing across multiple devices in off-line modes.

I have started working on this update and hope to have something out by the end of next month.

Stay tuned.

Monthly Totals Bug (Non English Calendars)

A user from South Korea informed me that My Ministry had a bug, which didn’t correctly display totals for the month, year or averages.  This was a thinker, but was a result of correcting the Timezone bug I fixed earlier.

Thankfully the fix was relatively minor, and most users I expect haven’t noticed this issue, since I only released the app in the US & Canada.  However, other languages would likely present this issue.

Apple is not taking updates until December 28th, at which time I will submit this fix for review, and hopefully it will be available early in the new year.  Most users will not notice anything different in their app.

Thanks for the feedback, and I appreciate your help in finding these issues,

Text messaging option added to My Ministry

Several people have requested the option to send a text message to their secretary rather than sending an email.  The new version of My Ministry has been submitted today with that feature.

A couple of minor UI tweaks were also included, some spacing and changing the highlight color of the switches to match the selected text colors.

Again I welcome any feedback and appreciate any reviews.
